Group Fitness Instructors

Chanda Thompson
Zumba Fitness changed my life. Always into physical fitness, one day I was pulled into a Zumba class by an instructor at my local gym. I was immediately hooked; I consistently attended the classes at every chance. Within five months after my first class, I decided to attend a training session in October 2008. I became a certified licensed Zumba instructor.

Elizabeth Ratliff
I am a Group Fitness Exercise Instructor who has been in the fitness industry for over 20 years and taught in many wonderful places all over the world. I am married with 3 wonderful children: ages 19, 12, and 10.

Shaquita Basileo

Why I teach:

Dance fitness changed my life. After becoming a new mom and suffering a few personal life challenges, I started dance fitness as a way to manage stress. I lost 50 pounds forever and knew that I wanted to share how incredibly fun and effective dance fitness could be. As a Christmas gift to myself, I went for Sh'Bam training/certification and joined the Extreme Fitness family in February 2013. It's been an amazing experience - my husband and I moved to Falling Waters in 2011, so meeting new people had been tough until I started teaching Sh'Bam classes. I have one daughter, Savannah, and I love that I can now teach her what exercise has done for my life.

What I love about Sh'Bam:

You can completely lose yourself in the music!! I always say "You own this!" You can do the moves that I'm demonstrating, or you can do the moves you do in your car when your favorite part of the song comes on. It's really up to you - Sh'Bam is YOUR experience!
What you may not know about me:

When I'm not teaching, I work as Director of Marketing and Social Media for a start-up and also as a business school admissions consultant. I have an MBA from Stanford University. And I LOVE The Golden Girls. I have all of the seasons on DVD and I can't fall asleep without watching an episode.

Sharon Mason

I was born in Virginia and relocated to Martinsburg in 1983. I graduated from Shepherd University in 2006 with a Bachelors Degree in Science and minor in Chemistry. I have worked for a local optometrist for 18 years.

I am a competitive inline speedskater. I hold a 2nd degree black belt in Martial Arts. Which brings me to why I teach spin. I have been an avid spinner for amidst two years. I added spin to my training in skating to increase my endurance, build a stronger core, and increase foot speed. It did just that! In July 2013, I became a National Speed Skate Champion on relays, and brought home a silver medal.

I became certified in spin September 24, 2013 because I am excited about what it has done for me, and wanted to pass this program on to others who have fitness goals.  With my Science background and being a competitior, I have a true understanding of the importance of exercise and fitness for one to feel and perform at their best and spin is a fun way to get there!

Tania Gladwell

I have two little girls and I am a first grade teacher at Rosemont Elementary School. I am a figure competitor in the OCB and the NPC. My passion is nutrition and I will soon be working on an integrative nutrition certification. I have been into physical fitness and nutrition for over 10 years and I love helping people set and meet their fitness goals.

Natalie Householder

If you're looking for a fun way to lose weight, make great friends, and actually look forward to your workout then you need to try my class! My name is Natalie, I have a passion for dance, a busy life filled with work, and a family of 4 and I still MAKE time for Zumba! My Zumba class is filled with a positive atmosphere that will feel more like a party than a workout, which is the reason you will want to come back repeatedly. I have 3 simple rules: 1) Move-there's no right or wrong way to do Zumba as long as you move! 2) Have fun! This is not a dance competition...it's just a dance party! 3) Don't pass out...You will be so motivated by the music and the energy that you just might get a great workout! Even if you have never tried Zumba before, I will show you easy to follow steps and modifications to fit your fitness level. I am certified in both Zumba and Zumba Toning and both classes will give you great fitness results. Come Zumba with me...I look forward to dancing with you soon!

Curran Johnston

Curran Johnston is a Washington, D.C. area native. He began his Spinning career in 2008 where he began teaching at the SouthEast D.C. Gold's Gym location and throughout the DC Maryland and Northern Virginia area. Curran recently completed indoor cycling training with Cycling Fusion, a program that is geared towards outdoor cyclists as well as indoor cycling enthusiasts. The new spin instructor enjoys turning people on to spinning as well as working with professional, longtime cyclists on various training goals, and just about everybody in between.

'Over the years I have done everything from high intensity strength training, long distance running-for a while doing 45 miles a week-, and a myriad of other physical development routines and disciplines of exercise, but for me nothing compares to indoor cycling. And while I hold that ideal physical development is accomplished by a combination of exercise methods, what one can accomplish with the versatility of an indoor bike is incredible. Indoor cycling is an indispensable part of my exercise routine.'
While Curran has his own stationary bike at home, he insists that it is nothing compared to working with a large group of people in a group fitness setting. 'In a large group you can really feed off the energy of the crowd and push yourself further than you would otherwise on your own. It is like working with a training partner on an exponential level.'

Kristin Sabol

I am very enthusiastic about Spin. I have personally been taking Spin classes since 2009 and have always enjoyed them. I have an Associate of Science in Business and I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Leisure at Shepherd University.  I sustained an injury while in the Army and was medically discharged. I became more passionate about Spin after this, and decided to get certified because it really helped me rehabilitate and continue working towards my goals. I look forward to influencing others through Spin and helping people reach their goals in an exciting and positive way.

Sharon Moskowitz

As a Division 1 Collegiate rugby player, marathon runner, and lifelong athlete, I have always trained with a sense of dedication and determination to sport. I am endlessly passionate about living a healthy life filled with adventure and I strive to share my passion with others. I was introduced to the

principles of Crossfit in 2008 but joined the movement in 2011 and haven’t looked back. I deeply identify with the training to MOVE. By this, I mean to train to be the best version of ourselves in whatever path we choose, and to be ready – physically and mentally – for anything life may throw at us. Making what we do in the gym relative in life is crucial to me, as the work doesn’t begin and end within the walls of a weight room. I’m a “No excuses” type of trainer who will push you to achieve your greatest potential through time and commitment. If you see me around, please introduce yourself and join me in an Xfit class!

Joseph Blessing

Currently, I am the lead Crossfit coach at Extreme Crossfit. I have been doing Crossfit for two years and have really enjoyed the coaching side of it. There is nothing better than watching an athlete perform a movement or lift a weight that they never have been able to do before. If I had to pick a favorite Crossfit movement it would be Muscle-ups. There is nothing better than being on top of those rings. We at Extreme Crossfit hope to take our athlete to the next level.
